The Colca Canyon is a spectacular Andean canyon known for its dramatic scenery and soaring Andean condors.
Trekking inside Colca Canyon offers a challenging hike through dramatic landscapes, traditional villages, and deep river valleys.
The Monastery of Santa Catalina in Arequipa is a large colonial-era convent founded in 1579. Its quiet streets, courtyards, and buildings are painted in vivid shades of blue, red, and white, creating the feel of a small town within the city.
Visitors can explore its chapels, cloisters, and former living quarters to learn about the nuns’ daily life across the centuries. Built from local volcanic stone, the monastery also offers a glimpse of Arequipa’s history and architecture.

Some of my best mementos in Arequipa were taking in the immense views of Colca Canyon and seeing Andean condors glide above its cliffs. I also loved admiring the city and Misti Volcano from Yanahuara Viewpoint.
Visiting the Ashlar Quarries was another highlight, where I saw artisans shape the white volcanic stone used in Arequipa’s historic buildings. Together, these experiences made the region’s landscapes, culture, and craftsmanship unforgettable.
